The Second class of Digital Deepak’s internship was held on May 23, 2020, the topic for the class was to Create a Customer Avatar.

How To Make a Customer Avatar

To sell more of your product, reach a bigger audience, and grow your list, the single most effective thing you can learn is how to make a Customer Avatar. Having a good Customer Avatar will give you a near-superhuman ability to communicate powerfully with the people who are most likely to become your customers.

Note: A Customer Avatar is also often called an Ideal Client Profile, or a Buyer Persona. In this article, I will use the term ‘Customer Avatar’ because it sounds much cooler.

Let’s face it: not every customer is right for your business. Your message can resonate really well with some types of people, but not with all of them.

Having a Customer Avatar allows you to identify the specific characteristics of people who like to buy what you’re selling. You can make your own Customer Avatars by following these 5 simple steps:

1. Find a template

2. Prepare your questions

3. Set the space to work

4. Answer the questions

5. Edit and review with friends

LEARN > DO > TEACH

When you teach, you understand things in a better way. Deepak Sir made us clear why he is asking us to write an assignment of what we learned today with this golden rule. When we learn we need to take action and then to teach others what we learned. It makes our concept clear.

Mistakes are future benefits

If you have done some mistakes if it’s related to English or anything: nothing to worry you will be good after some practice. There is no 100% perfect way to do this.

Marketing is about good conversation

“If you cannot converse well 1:1, you cannot converse well 1: many”

Here he took feedback about his emails: Do you feel I am talking to you directly in my email? And my reply was Yeah, of course, I do as I really feel he is doing one on one conversation with me thought his emails. He developed that skill with practice.

So while writing write like we are talking to the friend (not informal, but in a simple understandable language, it conveys our message better)

Be authentic to communicate better

Don’t be fake, Be you — Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts. Don’t try to pretend someone else. Some people may like you some may not.

Who is your audience?

“Riches are in the niches”

Deepak Sir told us that you have to go and talk to the people from your niche then you can figure out who is the exact audience you have. Like to talk with a bunch of people and boil it down to a single person that single person will be your customer Avatar.

How to Define Your Target Customer?

Demographics: age, sex, education level, income level, marital status, occupation, religion, location etc.

Psychographics: interest level what do they like, what they fear what they don’t like.

Once we figure out the above things about our customers we will be able to deal with them better.

Focus on the centre, not on the border

The main focus on the maximum % of people — Focus on direct Customer Avatar.

Then we had a live example of a customer avatar survey from his template with 25 questions. We had to complete the survey within 5 minutes after 5 minutes he shared the result of the survey. It has some open and close-ended questions.

Awkwardness is an indicator of learning

When we learn something new it’s going to feel awkward as it’s new for us — we must feel some discomfort it’s a good thing. To become a good marketer we must learn new things. Be open to learning always. Learn something new always.

After this, he shared his customer avatar template and suggested us to create our own according to our niche and sent it to our friends and get some entries. It will help us to identify our customer and it will help to know our target customer and help to create the perfect product for our customers.

Thus, I came to find my customer avatar, by doing a survey “Customer Avatar of Retail Entrepreneurs” From this survey, let me give examples for my customer avatars.

Summary of the findings:

Customer avatar 1: My Retail Entrepreneur survey customer is Yazhini( a Female)

  1. My Customer Avatar is Yazhini.
    in the age group of 25–30.
  2. A resident of Coimbatore,
    Single and a Graduate.
  3. She runs her own retail outlet,
    -a Super Market.
  4. She has her own brand name,
    -Choosy Super Market.
  5. Her annual income is between 5–10 LPA.
  6. She uses credit card regularly and also a frequent user of social media sites.
  7. She runs a single business and has social media account for her outlet and I can contact her through only WhatsApp.

Customer avatar 2:

Mounika lives in Chennai, aged between 30–35, relationship status is Married and a Post Graduate. She runs her own retail outlet — a Hyper Market and has her own brand name, Maya. Her annual income is between 30–40 Lakh and she has 3+ kids. She uses credit card regularly and also a frequent user of social media sites. She runs a multiple business and has social media accounts for her outlets and I can contact her through all modes of contact.

Customer avatar 3:

Nilkanth lives in Pudukkottai, aged between 18–24, relationship status is single, his annual income is between 1–2 lakhs, owns a Department Store, has no brand, he doesn’t use a credit card and he is not in any social media sites. He opted to do not contact.

As a marketer, to begin with, I will choose ONE customer persona. Because it is important to FOCUS ON THE CENTRE. I hope this article may help you to understand about target audience and customer avatar.
